My son is 4 years old and is in special education early child hood for speech and he has been for 2 years. I have a question if he is not meeting his iep goals is there anything I can do.

are the goals reasonable…is the school following the IEP?>

you need to find out why

At four years old, certain articulation milestones may not be met because of somewhat late development. This is fairly common in boys. Ask to watch the speech pathologist teach him and do the same at home. The school probably cannot give him the one on one attention that you would.

If your son has l language disorder, instead of just a speech problem, you should probably follow the same path. The difference is that language disorders are similar to learning disabilities in that while you may improve their ability to communicate, the disorder will always be there in one degree or another. It is very important to find out if your son has a language disorder.

Finally, boys lag far behind girls in developing language and speech sounds. Don’t panic yet, but find out from the pathologist, what you can do at home. That is vital.
